 Bob Dylan
| Bob Dylan's next album will be called Modern Times and will be released on August 28, according to a new report from the U.K.'s NME magazine. NME.com says that a number of journalists were given a preview of the album in New York last week but were sworn to secrecy about what they heard. One source described the album as similar in style to 2001's Love & Theft and another told NME that the tracks include "at least three masterpieces." None of the new songs were premiered on Dylan's recent U.S. tour, which wrapped in Florida last month.
AFI is poised to make a strong first-week showing on the sales charts. Billboard says that based on retail chains' first-day sales on Tuesday, AFI's new album, Decemberunderground, could surpass sales of 200,000 copies in the week ended June 11, which could knock the Dixie Chicks out of the #1 spot. The official sales data will be out on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the band has added more dates to their summer tour. AFI's North American run kicks off on June 13 in Montreal with Nightmare Of You and Dillinger Escape Plan, and currently is scheduled through August 8 in Phoenix. Among the gigs will be nine appearances on the Warped Tour.
Snow Patrol has been forced to postpone the rest of its North American tour so that singer Gary Lightbody can recover from polyps on his vocal cords. Several shows had already been canceled with the hope that Lightbody would recover, but doctors have now advised him not to sing for a month. "My vocal chords don’t seem to have heeled at all," the singer wrote on the band's Web site. "The polyps are still there and my singing voice is extremely weak... I’m so sorry about this but I’ve been advised by the doctor to not do any shows for a month. I may also need surgery but the initial suggestion from the doc is for me to rest at home for that time and see how I am in a few weeks. I hope you all understand that if I could do this tour right now I would but I’m worried to go against doctor’s advice would lead to serious, even irreversible, problems further down the line." The band is re-booking the tour for September.
Look for guests like Dave Grohl and the Dixie Chicks on Pete Yorn's next album, Nightcrawler, due on August 15. The album will complete Yorn's self-described musical trilogy, along with 2003's Day I Forgot and 2001's Musicforthemorningafter. "When you hear it, you'll understand," Yorn told MTV.com about his trilogy. "This could be the last one. I could be three records and out in this form. I might start a band and see where that takes me." Meanwhile, Yorn will be previewing new material on his acoustic tour, which starts June 22 in Santa Barbara. He will be on the road until August 12 in Asbury Park, NJ.
