Justin Bieber Lands Year's Biggest Debut
June 27, 2012

Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber notched the year's biggest sales debut so far as his latest album, Believe, sold 374,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Believe gives the singer his fourth #1 album, following 2009's My World, and 2011's Never Say Never: The Remixes and his holiday set, Under The Mistletoe. It is not only the largest bow of the year so far, but also Bieber's highest sales frame to date.

The teen singer scored big in a week rife with new debuts, as Country star Kenny Chesney bowed at #2 with Welcome To The Fishbowl, selling 193,000 copies. Singer/songwriter Fiona Apple is back on the chart with her highest-charting album ever, as The Idler Wheel Is Wiser... debuts at #3 by shifting 72,000 units. Apple was last on the chart in 2005 with Extraordinary Machine, which debuted at #7. Coming in at #4 is another new debut, the Smashing Pumpkins' Oceania, which opens with 54,000 copies sold. The Pumpkins were last on the chart with 2007's Zeitgeist, which debuted at #2.

The Rock of Ages soundtrack is #5 this week, selling nearly 49,000 copies, and last week's chart-topping album, Usher's Looking 4 Myself, slips to #6 this week with 48,000 sold. Adele's 21 falls out of the Top 5 for only the second time in its 70-week run, as it drops to #7 with just under 47,000 sold. One Direction's Up All Night sits at #8 with 41,000, and Luke Bryan's Tailgates & Tanlines is #9 with 28,000. Finally, Rush's Clockwork Angels rounds out the Top 10 with 27,000 sold. The new album from Rush opened at #2 last week, selling 103,000 units in its opening frame.
