Exactly one month afterMerlin Media flipped its News/Talk WIQI/Chicago to Adult Hits as "i101," the station has already tweaked its format to lean Hot AC. i101 had been leaning heavily on '90s hits for the past month, but the station announced on its Facebook page yesterday that "Yes, we’ve begun expanding the playlist. We realize that some of you will miss the mostly all-90s format, and while we are not turning our backs on the 90’S, it is time to add more music to the station to continue growing. We hope you’ll give the new sound a chance and keep us on your presets. As always, your comments are welcomed and we do read all of them…the positive one and the critical ones."
Comments on i101's Facebook page appear to be mostly critical, with listeners voicing their disappointment in the format change.
Additionally, the i101 website says the station plays "Today’s biggest stars like Adele, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry mixed with your favorites from the 90s by P!nk, Alanis Morissette, Goo Goo Dolls, Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt, Destiny’s Child and more."
Hubbard Hot WTMX (101.9 The Mix) and Clear Channel AC WLIT (93.9 Lite.fm) would be i101's closest competition in the Windy City.
