Country music powerhouse Big Machine is partnering with Republic Records to re-launch the Dot Records name as a new imprint, according to The New York Times. Dot Records existed from 1950 into the late '70s and was home to a wide variety of acts ranging from Gospel to R&B to Pop to Country. Its roster includes Pat Boone and Eddie Fisher, and released the surf-rock classic "Wipe Out" by The Safaris in 1963.

According to the Times, Dot Records will be led by former Warner Music Nashville promo exec Chris Stacey, though it is unknown what genre the label will focus on. The paper says that no artists have been signed to the label yet. Both Big Machine founder Scott Borchetta and Republic Chairman Monte Lipman were "tight-lipped" to the Times, when asked about Dot's future.

Borchetta told the paper, "As Nashville has firmly established itself as a world music center, this will give us the opportunity to continue aggressively in the country space, but also gives us a lot of available lanes to do pretty much whatever we want."

A formal announcement of Dot Records is expected as soon as today.
