| Fourteen performances from The Who's current U.S. tour will be streamed on AOL Music beginning today. The songs were handpicked by the band and include exclusive commentary from Pete Townshend. “We are thrilled that The Who chose AOL Music to reach their fans with this unique window into their new tour and album,” says Jack Isquith, Executive Producer of AOL Music Live. “The Who has always created the best stories in rock, and it’s a true honor to have the band so personally involved in telling their new story with us."
The family of Jimi Hendrix is suing a private bidder who paid $15 million for the rights to some of Hendrix' songs at an auction on Thursday. The rights, title, and interest to songs including "Hey Joe," "Purple Haze," "Voodoo Child" and "Foxy Lady" were sold over the telephone in New York by the estate of Michael Frank Jeffrey, who was Hendrix's one-time manager. However, the Hendrix family says that their company, Experience Hendrix, owns all rights to the music and recordings of the guitarist. "Whoever bought this bought themselves the right to be a litigant," Experience Hendrix spokesman Bob Merlis told Reuters. "It will be contested instantly."As a result of Courtney Love's recent deal to sell a portion of her rights to the Nirvana catalog, the band's music will begin popping up in TV shows very soon. Forbes reports that four Nirvana songs will be heard on an episode of CSI: Miami next month. "The decisions we make [regarding licensing] have nothing to do with money one way or the other,” Love’s manager Peter Asher told the Chicago Tribune earlier this year. “It’s a matter of, is this a cool show, is this a movie we’d like to be a part of? If it’s a tiny independent movie but it makes sense, we might let them use [a song] for almost nothing.”
| The tracklisting for the Family Values 2006 CD and DVDs have been announced. The CD includes KoRn performing "Shoots And Ladders/Wicked" with help from Chino Moreno of the Deftones and Flyleaf and Richard Patrick teaming up on a cover of U2's "Pride (In The Name Of Love)." Also, Corey Taylor of Slipknot lends a hand to KoRn on "Freak On A Leash." The CD and DVD will both be released on December 26.
Chris Cornell was in a motorcycle accident earlier this week but the singer is reportedly in good shape. According to the New York Post, Cornell was rear-ended by a truck in L.A.'s Studio City while riding his motorcycle on Tuesday. He was catapulted 20 feet into the air and suffered severe cuts and bruises, but was able to walk away from the accident. "Chris escaped with very little injury considering the severity of the accident," his rep told the Post. "Later that day, he returned to the studio to record his new solo album." Omarion has joined the Scream 5 tour, alongside Ne-Yo, Pretty Ricky, Mario, Jibbs and Yung Joc. Omarion was also a part of last year's Scream 4 tour. The 2006 edition begins in Miami on November 22 and is slated to wrap up on New Year's Eve in Washington, DC. Snow Patrol have cancelled six dates overseas after bassist Paul Wilson injured his arm and shoulder. Singer Gary Lightbody writes on the band's Web site, His injury is serious and if not dealt with now could land him in very dangerous territory in the future." Wilson is expected to recover in time for Snow Patrol to play at the American Music Awards on November 21. Staind have announced six tour dates in the south for early December, before singer Aaron Lewis heads out on his solo trek. The band will visit Mobile, AL; Columbus, GA; Lafayette, LA; Jackson, MS; Louisville and Myrtle Beach. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the city of Chicago had signed a five-year deal to keep Lollapalooza in the Windy City. The 2007 edition of the festival has already been set for the weekend of August 3-5.
A memorial stone honoring late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was unveiled a few weeks ago at the site of the bus crash that killed him in Dörarp, Sweden. The stone was unveiled in connection with the 20th anniversary of his death on September 27, 1986. After the stone was uncovered a remembrance concert was held at the nearby pub. "That really shows the engagement and the love that our fans have for our music and the people behind it," singer James Hetfield told a Swedish newspaper about the stone. "Cliff is one of the icons that are not easily forgotten." A DVD of Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint's tour from earlier this year will be released on November 21. Hot As A Pistol, Keen As A Blade was filmed in Montreal on July 3 and features songs from Costello & Toussaint's The River In Reverse as well as their own material. Nine Inch Nails will extend their tour behind 2005's With Teeth with two months of European tour dates. Trent Reznor and co. will begin in Lisbon, Portugal on February 10 and wind up in Helsinki, Finland on April 10.
