R.E.M. To Record 14th Album This Spring
March 9, 2007

R.E.M.

Next week, R.E.M. will enter into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and now the band has announced that in the spring, they will enter the studio to record their 14th studio album. For the first time, R.E.M. will work with producer Jacknife Lee, known for his work on U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, as well as Snow Patrol's Eyes Open.

"R.E.M. are consistently one of the Great Bands, if not the greatest," Lee said in a statement. "The new songs they've written are some of their most exciting and visceral yet. They're a beacon for any band wishing to remain honest and challenging."

"We are psyched to work with Jacknife Lee," R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills added. "We've got a great batch of songs, and can't wait to put them down."

In other R.E.M. news, the band's cover of John Lennon's "#9 Dream" is the lead single from the upcoming Amnesty International benefit tribute album Instant Karma. Former drummer Bill Berry plays on the track as well. Instant Karma will also feature contributions from U2, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, Christina Aguilera, Snow Patrol, Regina Spektor and many more. It will be out on June 12.

FMQB will be on hand Monday night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, with full coverage of the event.
