While most thought Rover was just on vacation and observing the President's Day holiday yesterday, it did seem odd that the "Worst Of" Opie & Anthony was on in his place. Now, due to a not-so-cryptic haiku posted by Rover (real name: Shane French) and confirmed by O&A during their show today, word is out that Rover has left the building at WKRK/Cleveland. The departure means Opie & Anthony move from a tape-delayed broadcast in afternoon drive and will air live in the morning.
The haiku posted by Rover read, "Told the Eye we're gone/They're bitter we found new friends/Scared, they yanked us off." The blog, Ohio Media Watch, is speculating that Rover "has accepted an offer from a competing station. We don't understand the exact situation, but apparently, Mr. French wasn't under the provisions of a non-compete - as the folks at CBS hoped to sign him to a new contract."
Meanwhile, as to speculation that O&A will have a short term move to mornings and WKRK will be seeking a new show once their CBS contract expires, FMQB hears the duo are on the verge of inking a new deal to keep them on both XM Satellite Radio and regular radio stations run by CBS Radio and Citadel Broadcasting.
