Quick Hits: Christina Aguilera, Velvet Revolver, Franz Ferdinand, The OC, Phil Spector, NBA All-Star Weekend, Jack Johnson
February 18, 2005

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera told People magazine she was taken by surprise by her boyfriend, Jordan Bratman, and his recent proposal. Bratman filled the couple's hotel room with rose petals, balloons, and gift boxes full of various presents, the final one containing the engagement ring. "It's classic, but it has a rock and roll feeling," Aguilera told People. "He got down on one knee and said, 'Will you do the honor of being my wife?' I've been floating ever since." The couple have been together for two years, and have not set a wedding date yet.

Scott Weiland says that Velvet Revolver is eager to begin work on their second album. The VR singer told LAUNCH, "We're going into pre-production this spring, and our goal and our aim is to have a record out by Christmas time. We've reached every goal that we've set so far, so I really don't see a reason why we wouldn't hit that goal." The Grammy-winning rockers will kick off a short tour of New Zealand and Australia this weekend, and have a brief Canadian tour scheduled for the end of March.

Franz Ferdinand is another band looking towards recording a second album. Singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos told MTV.com, "We've been writing songs for the last wee while. We're going to write a few more and then we're looking forward to retreating into the Scottish countryside and recording an album." Guitarist Nick McCarthy added that he hoped the band would have the album out by August or September.

Despite only being in its second season, The OC is about to release its fourth soundtrack album. Music From The OC: Mix 4 will arrive on April 5, and contain previously-released tracks from artists such as Modest Mouse and The Futureheads, "Scarecrow" from Beck's upcoming album Guero (which hits stores the week before), and a cover of Oasis' "Champaign Supernova" by Matt Pond PA.

A trial date has been set for the ongoing case against producer Phil Spector in the death of actress Lana Clarkson. Spector's trial will begin on September 16 in Los Angeles.

A number of musicians are slated to perform this weekend as part of the NBA All-Star Game celebration. MTV.com reports Destiny's Child will perform a pair of songs during player introductions. Saturday will see performances from the Goo Goo Dolls and Kelly Clarkson, with LeAnn Rimes and Big & Rich playing on Sunday.

Songwriter/surfer Jack Johnson tells MTV.com he is writing songs for the upcoming movie adaptation of the Curious George books. "There's going to be parts where I'll have to describe what's going on in Curious George's head at the time 'cause he can't speak," said Johnson. His next album, In Between Dreams, lands in stores on March 1.
