Quick Hits: Big Boi, Ne-Yo, CSNY, Ciara

Big Boi

OutKast Rapper Big Boi is still putting the finishing touches on his solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot... Son of Chico Dusty, which is due later this year. Big hopes to have the album finished by the end of August. The first single is "Royal Flush" featuring OutKast colleague Andre 3000 and Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon, and he will follow that up with a second single, "The World is Too Big," featuring Mary J. Blige. "This album is Big Boi to the extreme," the rapper told Billboard.com. "It's like a recession special. I'm talking about what's going on in the world, with everything from rising gas prices to the election. It's just my insights on life up to this point."

Ne-Yo's third Def Jam album, Year of the Gentleman, has been pushed back from a June 24 release date to August 5 in order for the singer to complete some additional songs. As previously reported, the album features production by Stargate, Tricky Stewart, J.R. Rotem and members of Ne-Yo's Compound Entertainment crew. Meanwhile, Ne-Yo is still on the road opening for Alicia Keys.

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions are finalizing a deal for U.S. rights to the politically charged Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young documentary, CSNY - Deja Vu. The film, directed by Neil Young, chronicles the group's 2006 Freedom of Speech Tour. Interviews with soldiers and others affected by the Iraq war are woven in with live concert footage. The Hollywood Reporter says that Roadside will release the movie theatrically in 15 cities in July, with Lionsgate handling a simultaneous nationwide video-on-demand release and, via potential partner Netflix, streaming video. The DVD version will be released in the fall.

Ciara is eyeing a September release date for her third album, Fantasy Ride. Rather than one standard CD, the music will be spread across three separately packaged discs, bundled together, each with five or six songs catering to a different theme, reports Billboard.com. The first disc is called Groove City and will contain sensual songs, while the second disc is called Crunktown and includes tracks akin to Ciara's 2004 single, "Goodies." Finally, Kingdom Of Dance will offer Ciara's house-leaning club cuts. Meanwhile, the singer appears in the upcoming film Mama I Want To Sing co-starring Lynn Whitfield and Patti LaBelle, which hits theaters in October.
