Sirius XM announces additional layoffs with the focus on its New York-based employees. Exiting are: Standards and Broadway Director Mike Peters, Director/Latin and Contemporary Jazz Shirley Maldonado, ex-Hot Jamz PD Tonya Byrd, ex-Beat 36/Area 38 PD Howard Marcus, Sirius Pops PD Brian Atwood, Soul Town PD Wayne Mayo, Sirius Blues/Pure Jazz PD Matt Abromowitz and Classic Rewind/Hair Nation PD Andrea Karr.

 

Jeff Straughn is named SVP of Strategic Marketing for Island Def Jam Music Group. Straughn will be responsible for "building long term integrated strategic partnership programs between Island Def Jam and its respective artists, with corporate America and their respective brands." Straughn was previously VP of Strategic Marketing at IDJMG.


Syndication One's Rickey Smiley Morning Show has been added to Radio One Urban WERQ/Baltimore.

Modern Rock KJEE/Santa Barbara has been off the air since Friday morning, thanks to the devastating fires in California. The station's transmitter was severely damaged by fire, which also affected other stations in Santa Barbara, including News/Jazz KCLU-AM.

 

Non-comm Triple A KCRW/Los Angeles names evening host Jason Bentley to the MD position, concurrently naming him host of the station’s signature program, Morning Becomes Eclectic, replacing Nic Harcourt. Bentley previously co-founded the Quango Music Group and was an A&R executive at Maverick, as well as a Music Supervisor for The Matrix soundtracks.

 

New York Rock radio great Meg Griffin gets a new show on Sirius XM Radio, as the host of "Disorder" on The Loft (Sirius ch. 29 or XM ch. 50). Griffin will have her own, free-form show, airing weekdays and Sundays, beginning December 1. Black 47 frontman Larry Kirwan also will begin hosting his own show, "Celtic Crush," beginning November 23, on The Spectrum (Sirius ch. 18 / XM ch. 45).

 

Tod Tucker, OM at Renda Broadcasting-Tulsa, picks up additional programming responsibilities at AC KBEZ replacing Dave Dallow.

 

Classic Hits KOOL/Phoenix feels the budget axe as morning show producer Lee Bortel and News Director/co-host John Michaels see the elimination of their positions. Bortel will still handle weekend/swing duties at the station. 

 

Arbitron reports that wireless modems that allow PPM equipment in cell-phone-only households have increased the response rate and representation for these households and the 18-34-year-old demographic.

 

Univision releases its Q3 fiscal results, with net revenue down 2.4 percent to $511.3 million.
