Country star Jason Aldean went straight to #1 on the sales chart this week with Night Train, selling 409,000 copies in its opening frame, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album not only secures the singer his first #1, but it's also the second-largest debut of the year behind only Mumford & Sons'Babel, which moved 600,000 in its debut week. Babel actually moves down to #2 this week with another 74,000 sold. However, according to early reports, Taylor Swift is expected to zoom past both Mumford and Aldean next week when her opening week sales figures for Red are announced. Swift's new album is projected to sell over a million copies in its first week of release.
Meanwhile, Brandy scores her first Top 10 album in more than eight years as Two Eleven debuts at #3 with 65,000 sold. Two Eleven is Brandy's fourth Top 10 effort overall. American Idol winner Scotty McCreery enters the chart at #4 with Christmas With Scotty McCreery, shifting 41,000 in its first week.
In the back half of the Top 10, Country singer Jamey Johnson starts at #5 with Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, selling 32,000, and P!nk'sThe Truth About Love is #6 this week with 31,000. Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream holds the #7 slot with 22,000, and Little Big Town's Tornado is #8 with just about 22,000 sold as well. Adele's 21 is back up to #9 with another 21,000 sold, and the animated group Dethklok bows at #10 with Metalocalypse: Dethalbum III, shifting 20,000 units. This is the highest debut for a soundtrack from the Adult Swim series, as the first two peaked at #21 and #15, respectively.
