Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift were the big winners at Sunday's MTV European Music Awards. Each of the Pop stars won three EMAs each. Bieber (who also made headlines over the weekend with the news that he had split from his girlfriend, actress/singer Selena Gomez) won for Best Male, Best Pop and Best World Stage, but was not in attendance at the event.
Swift closed out the show, dressed as a ringmaster, with a circus-themed performance of her hit "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." The singer won for Best Female, Best Live Act and Best Look at the EMAs.
Surprisingly, Rihanna (who performed on Saturday Night Live over the weekend) was shut out by the EMAs, after being nominated six times this year. Carly Rae Jepsen won Best Song for her smash hit "Call Me Maybe," with Linkin Park being named Best Rock act. Lana Del Rey was named Best Alternative artist, with boy band One Direction winning for Best New Act and Biggest Fans. Best video went to PSY for his viral video sensation "Gangam Style."
Other winners included Nicki Minaj for Best Hip Hop, David Guetta for Best Electronic and a Global Icon Award for the late Whitney Houston. Alicia Keys honored Houston at the event, and performed as well. Other EMA performers included Muse, Rita Ora, Pitbull, No Doubt and The Killers.
