The FCC has once again delayed its review of the media cross-ownership rules and is not expected to revisit the issue until at least early next year. The quadrennial review of the rules has already been pushed back two years. Last month, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski released a draft of a potential loosening of the rules. Also last month, a report was released on minority ownership in the media.
The Commission opened a comment period on the minority ownership report, which is tied to the cross-ownership rule vote. Adweek reports that because they are connected, the vote on Genachowski's draft will have to be delayed until at least January 4, when the final reply comments are due on the ownership report.
